| August 22nd, 2009 1st Annual Stout Cornhole Tournament 11am-6pm (-ish) @ Gabriel Park (MAP) - Portland, Oregon Congrats to the 2009 Champions: Cooter & Meghan Runners-Up: Alden & Jenny Other Final Four teams: Brian & Jennifer, Matt & Sarah Photos coming soon! FAQ 1. What is cornhole? Simply put, Cornhole is a game that involves tossing a bean bag into a hole about 25 feet away. For more on the game please refer to http://www.americancornhole.org/ 2. How are teams for the tournament assigned? This is a co-ed tournament meaning one male and one female will make up each doubles team. You can form your own team or sign up as an individual and you will be paired up with a member of the opposite sex. 3. How much does the tournament cost? The entry fee will be $15 per person (or $30 per team). 4. Will you be providing anything? A good portion of the entry fee purse will go towards food and non-alcoholic beverages. We will have a couple of grills set up to cook some burgers and hot dogs. There will also be other small snacks (chips, etc.). 5. How much can I win? The winning team in 2009 won $240. The other Final Four teams took home $30 per team (their money back). 6. Will there be any other ways to win money in the tournament? Yes! Any individual player who throws a "four-bagger" (4 bags in the hole in one turn) wins $5. Any $5 payouts are drawn from the final winnings purse, which will in effect reduce the 1st and 2nd place team payouts. 7. Wait a second, back up... did you say "non-alcoholic beverages?" Yes, but don't you worry. I have secured an alcohol permit for Gabriel Park that day so you are more than welcome to bring your own cooler full of the adult beverage of your choice. Cornhole is mainly a tailgating activity, mind you; beer and cornhole basically go hand in hand. I will not be providing any alcohol because of OLCC laws which would make me liable for more than I care to be. BYOB. No kegs. No hard alcohol. And PLEASE, be responsible. Not just at the park, but on your way home. Carpool, taxi, bus, bike, appoint a designated driver. Let's have fun, but let's also be safe and respectful! 8. Can I bring my kids (or my dog, or my second cousin or...)? The hope is that this will be a fun family atmosphere, so, absolutely, kids are more than welcome. Your dog is welcome too, though if you have a dog that prefers barking, whining, biting, etc. as opposed to chilling out then it might be best to leave him/her at home. Any friends and/or family are more than welcome to come out and check out the action as well. 9. Can I come and not play in the tournament? Of course! The more people the merrier. Though if you do plan on enjoying food, etc., we'd ask that you chip in a few bucks. There will be a donation box by the food. Any money donated will get paid out as tournament winnings. 10. How will the tournament be structured? In 2009, we had three sets of boards. We had 18 teams (36 total participants) and each team played three "round robin" games which were scheduled randomly. The top eight teams after the round robin round were then seeded (by record first, then by point differential) and played best-of-three series' until a winner arose. 11. I know some people who would probably be interested in playing in the tourney, will they be able to? Absolutely! Let me know ASAP if you know of some possible participants. 13. I love cornhole! Why hasn't anyone ever written a song and video about it?? They have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io8X4pz_QJ0 |
